Aquatics

The following rules and regulations have been established for the benefit of all users of Wickwire Pool to assure the safe operation and to provide enjoyable recreation for all. Patrons are requested to cooperate in observing these rules and to obey the instructions of the Aquatics staff. Patrons violating swimming rules and operating guidelines are subject to the cancellation of their swimming membership. The Cortland Youth Bureau reserves the right to refuse admittance into any aquatic facility when the capacity has been reached or when otherwise deemed necessary for the health, welfare, or safety of the patrons.

Pool Membership Requirements

  • Bringing any animal, other than a service animal (dog) onto the pool deck is prohibited. Service animals may not enter water.

Weather

During storms, all facilities will be closed, and the entire area cleared of patrons. Due to limited cover, patrons are encouraged to leave the facility. Others must remain within the shelter of the bathhouse or their car. The pool will open thirty (30) minutes after the last lightning strike or sound of thunder. When lightning is within 10 miles of the pool, the pool will close.

Practice Healthy Swimming Habits

Under Health Department standards, adopted on the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control, accidents involving fecal matter now require a longer pool closure. Prevention is far better than contamination, so please follow the CDC’s healthy swimming habits.

  • Children (and adults) who have had diarrhea in the last two weeks shouldn’t go swimming.
  • Use the bathroom before getting into the pool. Take frequent bathroom breaks and check diapers often.
  • Shower before entering the pool and after using the toilet.
  • Change diapers in the bathroom (not the pool area). Throw diapers away in trash receptacles. Do not dispose of in toilets or rinse in showers/sinks.
  • Avoid swallowing pool water or even getting it in your mouth.
  • Children who are not yet toilet trained must wear a clean swim diaper. A bathing suit must be worn over the swim diaper.
