The pentagon shaped foundation honors the lives lost at the Pentagon in Washington, DC and represents strength. The two steel towers, constructed of twisted metal emerging from the ruble, honor the lives lost at the World Trade Center in New York City, and represent perseverance. While the plaque in the shape of Pennsylvania honors the lives lost in an open field in Somerset County, PA and represent courage.
